Poster Session Title: Accessibility: The All-Spice of Health Education

Presenter: Ellen Perlow

Abstract:

Assuring the ability to access or accessibility of health education and health care is a standard prerequisite for health professionals' provision of such services. Accessibility training, awareness, and practice thus need to be key components within the core curriculum of every health education program. Our diverse, ever-changing, and aging world also demands that we achieve and implement this objective.

This poster session examines results of a survey of selected graduate health education programs as to the presence and quality of accessibility education and practice.

- Are our future health educators being equipped with the requisite knowledge, awareness, and skills concerning accessibility?

- Are the transmission modes of this education accessible?

- How do and should health education programs integrate and improve accessibility education in their core curricula, especially cost-free or at low cost?

The poster offers an interactive board on which attendees can add suggestions and recommendations that will be added to the final product accessible at http://www.a4access.org/sophe2003.html. The assistive technology known as "Post-It"-Brand notes and marker pens will be provided.

Alternative formats of this presentation are available upon request.
